LONG TERM FORECAST:
In 1996 I read some New Age forecasts for gold to go to $2500 a troy ounce and silver to $75. before the year 2000. I have also read predictions that all gold would be confiscated, all societies would become socialistic, and gold would not be traded. I rely on astrology and cycles. It is true that we are in a cycle of severe weather and disease, but the world will go on. People do change their ways and their thinking from generation to generation and from century to century as they always have.
In our present Pluto-in-Sagittarius period, there are both sociological and technical reasons why gold has become "just another commodity: "
SOCIOLOGICAL:
Gold is the metal of fear and hoarding.
In the times of our great grandparents, gold and land were often the major means of storing wealth. Banks did not have government guarantees and were not always readily available in small communities. Gold was the means of keeping a sizable value in a small bulk. It was non-tarnishable and acceptable to all.
In contrast, today, there is a wide array of places and ways to store wealth. Most of our young people have not experienced deprivation and our government t has cushioned period s o f economic hardship . People do not fear the same things and do not save as their grandparents did.
TECHNICAL:
The demand for key minerals and metals climbed and accelerated relentlessly over the past 200 years--until the last two decades . Now , new technologies are transforming that pattern of consumption and supply.
Recent technology has made it economically feasible to harvest gold from an increasingly low grade of ore. This has made it possible for many regions around the world to produce the gold that they, themselves, need for their own use .
We should also consider that the rate of material substitution has increased at a rapid rate. Many processes that formerly required metals are now done on a much larger scale by electronics, nuclear reactors, fiber optics.
METAPHYSICAL:
If one accepts the forecasts of psychics, such as Cordon Michael Schallion, we are approaching earth changes that are the result of cycles covering tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years. In this case, a polar shift could change the earth's alignment in reference to the signs of the zodiac and thus require new calculations of earth's basic position. But, when forecasting gold prices in general all over the earth, as I am doing here, the alignment of specific locations would not be important.
Such catastrophic change would al so do away with much of our wireless technology--at least temporari ly-and-during the process bring renewed usage of metals for tools and communication and of gold for holding wealth. The earth changes are forecast for 1996-2000 and astrology indicates an increase in gold prices in 1998-1999.
It is quite possible to have many of the predicted weather and earth changes without an actual polar shift and that is what I personally expect. In that case, astrology, my major tool, should continue to be reliable.
In summary, people, especially young people, are fast adopting a new way of living that is in the NOW. They believe that if they live right now, their view of the past (and hence their past) will be altered and that they have the power to make their future as they choose. This New Age philosophy is washing away fear and hoarding among many and with it the major allure of gold .
