THE COSMOS AROUND FOMC WEEK
Saturday March 19 Mercury SR

Tuesday March 22 Venus enters Aries
Friday March 25 Full Moon
Saturday March 26 Pluto SR
Hold onto your hats folks!
For most of FOMC week, beginning with Monday, the first trading day of
Spring, we have issued a “trading diapers” advisory!
Will Alan use or discard the key words “measured” and
accommodative”? Given the astrology of Tuesday’s 2:15pm FOMC
announcement time, I don't believe analysts will clearly understand and
agree on what Alan is saying about the US economy and his monetary
policy. If so, that is another negative (uncertainty) for this market.
U.S.
consumer sentiment dipped in March, contrary to the expectations of
many ivory tower economists. Why? The most recent Gallup Poll shows the
majority of Americans remain pessimistic about the U.S. economy. Nearly
half of respondents said the economy was doing "only fair," while 16%
said they thought it was doing poorly. In contrast, only 3% rated it
excellent. As to the future, half the respondents didn't see things
getting better anytime soon.

GUEST HYDE PARK SOAPBOX: Crumbling
Infrastructure Erodes America's Quality of Life
“In all areas of modern life -- from transportation to security to
pollution control to our drinking water -- our nation is struggling to
meet the needs of its growing population. This is the key finding from
the ‘2005 Report Card for America's Infrastructure,’ issued by the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).”
TRADERS: To
date, we remain happily short for a better test of Dow 10500. However,
given this week’s FOMC meeting and astrology, we will be nimble traders
and would allow ourselves to be stopped out and reshort again, should
bargain hunters prevail Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday.
INVESTORS:
We are ready, willing and able to buy any April seasonal tax
rally. However, we are still waiting.
FACTOID: Fewer new mutual funds were launched last year than any other
year going back more than a decade.

While the internal Stock Market astrology is mixed, the external risk
potential is high. Looking ahead, my question is whether 2006 will show
less than 2% growth or be a classical recession?
PRESERVE CAPITAL: FOCUS ON PROTECTING
AGAINST DOWNSIDE RISK.
2. Standard & Poor's has begun rebalancing its 500 index to make it
better reflect the number of publicly traded shares of each company.
For example, the weighting of Microsoft (MSFT) will decrease, because a
large number of its shares are not available for trading, while
ExxonMobil (XOM), the largest stock in the index, will have its
weighting increased, because all its shares are publicly traded. Index
funds have to buy and sell stocks to make their holdings match the new
weightings. Wal-Mart (WMT) will feel the biggest impact. Its weighting
will drop about 20%, and its S&P market capitalization will fall
about $4 billion.
HW: Astrology is not the only reason that WMT is flirting with its
annual Lows and we rated it “Under Perform” in 2005
We have recommend buying both of our March Stock of the Month
picks Enzo (ENZ) and Treasury Inflation Protected Bonds (TIPS). This
week, outside of special situations, and a possible second buy of ENZ
should it drop to $14 due to overall (and not company specific) market
conditions, we plan to wait at least until past Easter before putting
substantially any more cash to work in the market.
3. It should have come as no surprise to WSNW readers, that the bottom
is falling out of General Motors (GM), despite sporting the highest Dow
dividend of 7%. Friday we recommended short term traders buy it
at 28 as a short hedge. Should GM force union concessions quickly, it
will jump to $30+. However, this is not to say that we may not see GM
much lower and attacking $25 later this year. Still, we upgraded GM
from “Strong Trading Sell” to a more neutral (and volatile) “Trading
Watch.”
Compare all this to the savvy marketing of BMW to King Mswati III.
Swaziland's King Mswati III purchased new BMW sports cars for each of
his 10 wives. FYI: The BBC also reported that he has asked parliament
for $15 million to build a palace for each of his 10 spouses. However,
the king also has three fiancées who will not benefit from the
BMW fleet purchase. Is it any wonder that Bayerische Motoren
Werke [BMW], the world's second-largest luxury carmaker Fourth-Quarter
Net Rose 30 Percent. It has also raising its dividend and buying
back stock. Deutsche Bank raised BMW “buy'' from “`hold'' and Morgan
Stanley reiterated its ``overweight'' recommendation on BMW.
HW: I am not quite so bullish, but despite being a loyal
American, would feel comfortable Buying BMW/Selling GM.
4. "Energy has been very cheap for a very long time. A litre of
gasoline is cheaper than a bottle of sparkling mineral water. Low
prices have been taken for granted."
Mike Wagstaff, chief executive, Aberdeen-based Venture Production
HW: Rather than agreeing with you that the damage to the economy from a
high oil price is often exaggerated, I believe you are instead making
an argument for owning black gold (oil) or blue gold (water) along with
yellow gold.
“The higher level of growth that we're expecting may not be achievable.
I am not excited about this market.''
Owen Burman, director of equities, Riggs Investment Advisors
HW: I agree with you that many more investors will soon realize that
General Motor's forecast “may be saying to the world that the economy
is slowing down.”
"It still looks like we haven't found a top [for oil] yet."
Tom Bentz, broker, BNP Paribas Commodity Futures
HW: True for oil, but this may not be true for stocks, i.e. a 2005
stock market top may already be history.

6. WRITER: Our call on
Crude Oil is going to be BINGO! US Light Crude will test US Dollar
60.00+ in the near future.
HW: Yes, So far, so good. However, short term, I believe $58.30
will hold, but I won’t fight the tape if I am wrong.
7. HERE WE TALK ABOUT AFUND CLIENT STOCKS.
On March 17, 2005 Surfnet Media
Group (SFNM) became a new client. We are quite excited about both
the short and long term prospects for this company. I recommend ALL
WSNW readers research this stock for possible inclusion in their
portfolio.
READER: Do you know what is the first trade date for TNXT?
HW: November 13, 2003.
