10/27 LUNAR ECLIPSE 11:07 PM ET

2. UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES AND THE OCTOBER MARKETS
Current talking head wisdom says markets will follow the presidential polls: Bush UP Market UP, Bush DOWN, Market DOWN.  However, this short term market indicator will work only until it stops working. Kerry is sure to point out some current economic fantasies and an increase in investor reality is hardly likely to rally markets. Banc of America Securities has just advised clients to reduce their exposure to the stock Market from 60% to 55%, due in part to questionable earnings growth. The rest is recommended to be 30% cash and 15% bonds. "We believe it now makes sense for investors to move a greater portion of their assets away from stocks, and consider ourselves to be meaningfully underweight equities now for the first time in more than two years," wrote B of A strategist Thomas McManus.  "While we still believe that SP 1160 is achievable in 12 months' time, we see that level as unlikely in the near term and we think that popular averages could challenge or pierce their August lows at some point in the next few weeks."
HW: That is good advice. Extra caution [cash and portfolio liquidity] is advised through October.

HYDE PARK SOAPBOX: IS TIMING RUNNING OUT FOR PROSPERITY?
Despite growing demand from India and China, oil prices above $50 are not sustainable. Hence over time they will drop. Much of recent US economic growth was due to tax cuts and war spending, both of which are not sustainable over the long term.  The so called good news is that there is not yet signs of worker wage inflation.  Who is that good news for? Henry Ford paid his workers living wages so they could afford to buy his cars. Current US managers don’t seem to get it. Meanwhile, IMF Report Disputes Housing Bubble Theory but says very high housing prices in many rich countries are in danger of a correction as central banks raise interest rates to check inflation. "Just as the current upswing in house prices has largely been a global phenomenon, any downturn is also likely to be highly synchronized across countries, with corresponding implications for the world economy," according to their semi-annual World Economic Outlook.
I report, you decide.

TRADERS:  DAY TRADING WEEK.
INVESTORS: MORE RISK THAN REWARD IN MOST INVESTMENTS THIS WEEK.  STAY LOOSE AND HIGHLY LIQUID UNTIL GOOD NEWS, A REAL MARKET DROP OR THE NOVEMBER ELECTION, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.

3. We are pleased that our September Microcap pick AFUND client Health Science Group (HESG) reached our trading target within 30 days. Note: We emailed our September picks last week to Wall Street Subscribers.

As most WSNW readers know, Jupiter left Virgo and entered Libra September 24. We therefore expect M&A activity to accelerate, given Libra's rulership of partnership. For the same cosmic reason, we also expect barter to greatly expand, both for individuals and businesses. If you are worried about the stock market losing value, the Art Market, also ruled by Libra, can be both an attractive alternative investment and defensive play. While the outlook for the US economy is being revised down, the art market is looking forward to an illustrious season. Blue Chip Art (brand name artists or works from important collections) is usually more profitable in the long-term and can involve a lower level of risk since the art market is by nature less volatile. Collectors may also experience champagne fun buying art and unlike stocks, you can proudly hang your painting in a prominent place for the enjoyment of all. One stock choice is Getty Images (GYI), which supplies photo images for media. While a recognized play, i.e. somewhat expensive, it is likely to out perform in Q4 2004 and 2005 and hence worth watching.

4. American icon Wonder Bread and Twinkies maker, Interstate Bakeries Corp (IBCIQ), the nation's largest wholesale baker, filed for bankruptcy protection becoming the latest Carb craze casualty.   American investors reacted swiftly to its NYSE delisting as Interstate stock up in soaring volume on pink sheets.  Meanwhile a “surprising” Yale University study said Gambling Linked to Good Health in Elderly. Is it true that older recreational gamblers are healthier than non-gamblers? What does this all mean?
Will Las Vegas spas become hot?  Will Americans stop eating junk food and gamble more instead? I wouldn’t bet on it. Until recently, Las Vegas Related Gaming Companies have outperformed for two years. I believe value investors can wait to bet on gaming stocks until valuations are lower. However, beware, as longer term the Saturn-Neptune oppositions beginning Aug 31 2006 suggest a major downgrade of this sector will be warranted within two years.

5. "I guess what's happening is this soft patch (in the economy) is affecting everybody."
John Kinsey, portfolio manager, Caldwell Securities
HW: Good guess, John.

"When you take a look at the leading economic indicators, it's very clear that the price of oil is having an impact on the economy. Just look at the negative earnings statements from some of the most stable companies out there."
Hugh Johnson, chief investment officer, First Albany Corp
HW: Duh!

“Despite still-hefty gasoline prices, continued turmoil in Iraq and the absence of fresh tax cuts, U.S. consumers are sticking with what they do best: spending.''
Susan Hering, economist, UBS Securities
HW: I wonder if our founding fathers would have been proud to partake in this new American dream. Be that as it may, I believe Christmas retail spending will be on the weak side.

7. HERE WE TALK ABOUT AFUND CLIENTS
We are obviously very pleased that Health Science Group (HESG) rose 50% in September as we predicted.  I hope to post on our website shortly why we feel this will be a winning small cap investment in Fall 2004 and Winter 2005 shortly.

IHI Shareholder: Is there anything positive you can give me to hang on or should I salvage what little is left and sell [IHITF]?
HW: While I cannot directly advise you, I CAN tell you what I believe. IHI stock is a bargain now. In my view, great patience is a virtue here as Microcaps often act like non-expiring options.  Roger is well committed and both horoscopes promises continual opportunities, e.g. Florida. Over time, one or more of the many projects that the Company is working on should make it. Personally, I plan to be buying more IHI stock again soon.
