2. SUMMER DOLDRUMS?
No matter how you spin it, US corporate earnings growth will be slowing the second half of the year. With the exception of Friday’s (July 23) Gold Buy: “Today gold is weak- we recommend buying your favorite gold stock today. Ours are AAUK [20.17], NEM [39] and PDG [15.53]”. We are keeping our powder dry (extremely high cash reserves) for our forthcoming forecasted Republican convention rally.

NO INFLATION WATCH
Before political distortion, the CPI was designed to measure consumer inflation, i.e. how much it cost this year to live as well as last year. While dinning at the Water Club on my wife’s birthday last week, I noticed a more than 15% increase over last year’s bill. But it was delicious as ever with a superb view. This morning I had a scrambled egg sandwich at the Metro coffee shop in our building. Last week it was $1.75 WITH coffee; today it was $2.50 WITHOUT! The government says I should ignore food and energy (let’s not start me on oil). I wonder for much longer the charade can continue? Of course, inflation will beget deflation, as stagflation is the real looming danger since the US is no longer isolated in a global economy. We are now competing not only with Euroland, but also with the teeming Chinese and Indian masses for raw materials and both finished goods and services.
In August, I consider it appropriate to hold between 8% and 20% gold weighting as portfolio insurance, depending on whether one holds bullish or bearish market views.
FYI “Normal times“ weight is 5% and 10%, but these are extraordinary times!

TRADERS: We expect a big move Monday morning: Trend follow market open.
INVESTORS: Patience continues to be a virtue.  However, it is now time to begin to prepare your “dream” August buy lists.

KEYDATES:        JULY 29, 30
DJIA:                   S1 9927 S2 9901 S3 9800 10000 PIVOT
NASDAQ:           S1 1840 S2 1820 S3 1750 1900 PIVOT
Gold:                    Investing- Second Accumulation; Trading- Buy on strength

MARKET SENTIMENT Worry first (Down), then late bargain hunting rally.
DON’T BUY AND HOLD: BE LIQUID WITH A BALANCED AND DIVERSIFIED PORTFOLIO!
12/31/2003 EOD:    SPX   1111 DJIA 10453 NASDAQ 2003.
FAIR VALUE:        DJIA  <9800, NASDAQ  <1800, GOLD > 402
While the internal Stock Market astrology, as in 2003, is mixed, the external risk potential is horrific!

3. It is now time to begin to prepare your “dream” August buy lists. Over the next month, we will be updating many of our premium channel posts to assist WSNW subscribers with their next investing buys.

We are rather pleased that all three shorts on our premium subscriber S: 2004 STOCK WATCH LIST post: CME, EBAY and Yahoo, not only reached, but exceeded their price targets.
WSNW subscribers, who are actively investing in the market, should review this premium post weekly.

The first trade of LPL was 9:37:28 July 22, 2004 for 650100 shares at $14.40. Shares in flat screen maker LG Philips slipped 5% in its first day of trade, after pricing at the bottom end of expectations amid investor fears of a supply glut. It closed $14.05, down 95 cents, from an IPO price of $15. Their mistake was not hiring a good financial astrologer. Had they waited 5 to 10 more minutes, it would have made Venus and Jupiter a more exact paran along the Midheaven and Ascendant respectively.  Still, we expect LPL stock to outperform in 2005 and it will remain on our watch list for either a late August or mid-December buy.

4. Danish businesses in good shape
“Denmark is set to experience its lowest economic growth for ten years, while, at the same time, unemployment will be trending up and earnings will be depressed. Industries exposed to external competition will be particularly hard hit.”  However, thousand of Danes are reportedly hooked on Internet hen-farming. Danish egg producer Danaeg says that the interactive chicken game, which allows participants to give a "virtual hen" water, grain and tender loving care in order to get the hen to lay eggs, is an overwhelming success. 240,000 Danes have become hooked on the hen game and many are devoting several hours a day on the Internet to the care and feeding of their digital livestock. Along with Danish support for the US-Iraqi war, we think this is yet another reason to avoid the Copenhagen KFX TOP 20 Index, which closed Friday at 263.25. The KFX has minor support at 250 and 240, but it is only after holding 220, that I might become interested. Our Danish 4 watch list, currently has the following global stock (not sector) ratings: DANSKE BANK (DNSKY) Under Perform, NOVO-NORDISK (NVO), Under Perform, TELEDENMARK (TDC), Out Perform, and VESTAS WIND (VWSYF), Market Perform.

5.  "I agree with Greenspan's comments. I think the U.S. economy is strong and growth is sustainable.
Jeremy Fand, senior proprietary trader, WestLB
HW: I don’t.

"You take the economic data over the last few weeks, which has been disappointing, and now all these negative earnings outlooks, and then you add in all the worries about energy prices, terrorism, Iraq, the elections - there's a lot to worry about out there. It's going to take a while for these issues to be resolved, and I think we'll be stuck moving sideways to lower until then."
Michael Sheldon, chief market strategist, Spencer Clarke
HW: If markets were not unduly manipulated for the November election, that would be true.

"There are no bearish factors [for oil] in the market. Already we are over $40 [Oil] and there is still room to move higher."
Tetsu Emori, chief commodities strategist, Mitsui Bussan Futures
HW: However, we continue to believe $44 remains an effective ceiling, baring catastrophe.

6. Don't let a dead market bury you
“In an era of $500,000 starter homes and $2-a-gallon gas, $156 doesn't buy financial happiness. But that is the measly profit a buy-and-hold investor would have made, excluding dividends, investing $10,000 in the Dow Jones industrial average on March 29, 1999, the day the Dow first closed above 10,000. More distressing: An investor who pumped that same 10 grand into the Nasdaq composite exactly six years ago, when it first topped 2000, would be sitting on a loss. Real estate, bonds and cash have all posted better returns during this time….When Warren Buffett forecast single-digit returns for stocks for the remainder of the decade a few years back, I fought the notion," Coleman says. "Now I believe him."

Why Gold Is Going to 500

7. Is this the beginning of the correction?
It either “ends” tomorrow (7/23) short term, or is at the beginning until a potential August bottom.
I am not sure either way if it is THE correction, but certainly one that could be tradable (buyable from a bottom.
Note: We covered WSNW Alert 63 at 9973 7/22; we reshorted on WSNW Alert 63A at 10040. See our 2004 WSNW Tracking for details.

8. HERE WE TALK ABOUT AFUND CLIENTS
Given an expected brief market rally post Republican Convention; we continue to recommend accumulation of both HESG and IHITF at current bargain basement prices under .80 and .30 respectively.

READER: July is almost over for you to be talking about those 3 chances in July. Where is the PR from IHI?
HW: He who knows does not say, he who says does not know.
