2. TRICK OR TREAT MARKETS
Whoa! Halloween week will be something. Tuesday, we have Uranus SD, Thursday
is a Full Moon and Friday, Jupiter goes SR on the same day Saturn is opposing
Pluto for the second of three celestial encounters. Trader’s delight!
Keeping perspective: the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and
the Pentagon only accelerated the economic slowdown in the United States.
We expect 3Q 2001 GDP numbers to be shocking.
"The green stuff on the street is guacamole…The white powder on the stairs
is baking soda…These are not reasons to call 911. People have got to start
using some common sense."
Happily, for long term investors, there are also positive signs for recovery:
the US government will pump billions of dollars into the economy to keep
it going and the Fed rate cuts will soon be taking affect.
WE EXPECT A MAJOR VICTORY IN THE WAR ON TEROR WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS
We recommended short term traders end last week liquid and flat.
It will take time for markets to comfortably rise above NASDAQ 1750-1800
and DJIA 9500-9605.
However, as intermediate term investors and positional traders, we remain
somewhat bullish and await a large Victory rally (to exit).
KEYDATES: October 30, November 1, 2
DJIA: 9605 Resistance/Pivot
NASDAQ: 1800 Resistance/Pivot
CD$: Continue long term accumulation
GOLD: Trading Buy
Now THERE IS LIGHT AT END OF THE TUNNEL: Saturn-Opposition Pluto ends May
2002!
INVESTORS: FALL 2002 markets will be HIGHER than today.
We will be posting our 2002 Stock markets forecasts for subscribers on
our premium channels shortly. Stay tuned.
2. Canada’s lowering of interest rates 0.75% last week is laying the foundation
for a strong long term recovery. As with it all global markets, it won't
be a straight line UP from here to next September - the long term trend is
up with considerable testing coming later in Winter 2002. The US Dollar
is near its distribution zone. Canada Ishares [EWC] should go to 11 or 12.
I am sure every WSNW reader knows my favorite Canadian baby, so no need to
mention it here. They can, however, look at our 2002 update for the
AFUND Canada 25
portfolio.
One obvious defensive post 911 portfolio pick is home entertainment.
We are watching a number of players. While we find them currently
a bit expensive, should they be subject to more tax selling and come closer
to their 2001 lows, we may nibble. One choice watch would be Echostar [DISH]
at 23 OB. Another is Sony (SNE) at 38 OB.
4. Philippines Councilor president Kim Atienzais is trying to pass a "Toilet
Paper" law requiring all businesses to stock free tissue paper. Currently,
many public toilets in shops and restaurants charge for each sheet of 'tabo'
or paper from vending machines. Kim feels businesses should have their licenses
revoked unless they offer free “tabo.” "Providing tissue paper in
rest rooms is a part of good public service. It will also help us all practice
personal things in a hygienic and convenient way," he said. No wonder the
PSI is close to 52 weeks lows. As this act may do wonders for reducing Islamic
militancy and add long sought stability, I recommend continuing to avoid
this exchange at least until this law is passed.
5. “The events of Sept. 11 have cut business and personal incomes so sharply
that tax collections will be unable to offset the rise in wartime spending.
History tells us that the nation cannot have guns and butter at the same
time.''
Chris Rupkey, economist, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi
HW: Of course they can, but the end result is always inflation.
"We may see a full-blown recession by the fourth quarter… but that doesn't
really matter, since most stocks will have already discounted in advance
of that."
Bret Stanley, lead manager, AIM Large Cap Basic Value Fund
HW: Yes, the economy will be subdued, but the key point is that it has
already been discounted into current pricing.
“The attacks have pushed back the expected stabilization or rebound in
manufacturing until next year.'' Rick MacDonald, economist, Standard &
Poor's MMS
HW: Actually they have accelerated the time table of healing. Still,
Winter 2002, will be difficult for companies without easy access to the
cash market.

7. READER: I have just been getting headers for your weekly reports.
HW: This is a problem with AOL. WSNW subscribers can go to our AFUND premium
channel 30 minutes after you receive our newsletter and you can download
it or print it from our website. Alternately you can switch to a better ISP
like earthlink.net as we did.
READER: Is there any chance for any intermediate recovery for CLN? say
in the next months to two months, or is it a long and hard climb from here?
HW: It seems to have based between .40 and .50 and now is attempting to
regain .80, $1 and $2, short term, intermediate term and longer term, respectively.
READER: LMT, NOC, GD, BA and RTN - All these Stocks are performing well
on NYSE. I think these Stocks are worth holding for the medium or long term
as US lead fight against global terrorism might last for a long duration.
HW: This fight will at the earliest last until Intermediate term until
May 2002. However, we would recommend taking profits several
months ahead of that.
READER: I have been studying your web site for a couple of days and am
interesting in subscribing to the Gold 3 month trial, with alerts.
My question is that in 2 places on the
Astrologers Fund | FAQ V3.8 FAQ
s it quotes this price at $300.00, yet when I try to place my order online,
the price of $500.00 appears-why is that?
HW: We raised our prices earlier this year and have now corrected it in
our FAQ. For our target audience, i.e., serious and experience
traders, this is quite cheap compared to the cost of one successful trade
or one bad trade avoided.
READER: Could you please put my mind at ease concerning IHI? I am concerned
that yet another delay may be occurring or something is wrong. The share
price concerns me and although in part can be explained by Sept 11th, I would
have expected a rally of sorts by now. Also do you still expect conformation
of pre factory orders in October and the share price to rise substantially?
Is the factory still on time for Dec start up? What impact do you expect
the Sept 11 disaster to have on IHI short, medium, and long term.
HW: Most important to me is that the Delta factory is still on schedule
for a December start up. 911 obviously caused a small delay. First orders
should be announced in two to three weeks. The short term effect of
911 was a three week delay in negotiations (One key group was flying in that
day, while several were scheduled for the following week). Intermediate
term, there may be a delay of two weeks. Long term I see no negative effect
whatsoever.
