FEBRUARY 6 VINO 2017 ITALIAN WINE
Our show favorite was Cinciano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011.
Also noteworthy their Chianti Classico Riserve DOCG 2012  both imported by Top Wines.

FEBRUARY 1, 2017 SLOW WINE TASTING

As should be expected all Slow Wwine highlight choices were at least good and most very good+.

Our show favorite was from Piedmont: Barale Fratelli Barolo Bussia Ris 2010 Nebbolo [organic]


JANUARY 23 Grand Cru de Bordeaux
The 2014 vintage overall was very satisfying (unlike 2013).
Our two favorites:
Margaux: Lascombes
Saint-Emilion: Chateau Canon-Gaffeliere
Also noteworthy from
Pauillac:Chateau Lynch-Bages & Chateau Pichon-Baron.

Clearly the French influence (remember Beruit used to be called the Paris of the Middle East

Two favorites:

Domaine Des Tourelles  I especially enjoyed their old Vine Cinsault as well as Arak

Domaine Wardy Obeideh 2914 First time tasted Obeideh the intriguing native Lebanon White

Outstanding: their Private Selection Red Blend of Merlot, Syrah, Merlot * Cabernet 2007

 

Sadly disappointed in Chateau Musar’s offerings.  Hopefully this will be a onetime event

May 17 VIII Guía Peñín Selection, Spanish Wine Tasting

Muscat of Alexandria from Malaga Seminar/Tasting by Jose Penin  Bodegas Jorge Ordonez Malaga  Beautifully sweet-/old vines/ “if you love ice cream, these wines are for you!”

Favorite winery: Rodiquez Sanzo:  GREAT value   Terras de Javier Rodriquez Toro 2012 100+ years (93)

Runner up:  Ferratus Sensaciones Decino 2003  Red Ribera Del Duero  Bodegas Coevas Jimenz- Feratus (96)


APRIL 27 Le Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux Pier A Harbor House - 22 Battery Place - New York, NY
    First if you have not visited Pier A, do so! It is one of the best drink/smart casual water dining venues in the city!

    Best marketing: Philipe Raoux The Winemaker's Collection Section 10 (Haut Medoc)- also noteworthy Chateau D'Arsac (Margaux).

    2015 Vintage of favorite Chateau Le Prieure 2015 vintage like 47: "Incredible lightness of wine" i.e. strong but light.
    Lorraine White's favorite: Chateau La Croizille St Emilion Grand Cru. Noted for matching barrel wood to each parcel.
    Finally worthy of mention Chateau Dalem.


April 26 Valpolicella Ripasso
    Think " Amarone Light"- Rounded, approachable and good value. So many good choices one clear winner: Casa VitIvinicola TINAZZI

April 21 Passion Jura Annual Grand Tasting
    Naturally here Jeune wines were distinctive, but our surprise discovery were the delicious Chardonnays of Domaine Rijkaert


April 5 Wines from Santorini: Volcanic Terroristas Unite
    Boutari always the safe bet.


January 23  Pinot Wine Days
    As usual, New Zealand outperforms California on a Price/Value basis.
    One reliable choice: MacMurray Estate Vineyards  and a Discovery: Foursight Wines

January 25  Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Trade Tasting
     2013 Vintage is not likely to be memorable.
    Usual favorites e.g. Chateau Clinet (Pomerol), Leoville Barton (Saint-Julien) etc. Value Discovery: Chateau de Chantegrive (Graves)
