ASTROLOGY AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTING

Harmonizing Heaven and Earth.

by Susan Hahn

Money, money, money was the mantra of choice for many in the 1980's. Remember? Today, in the down-to-earth nineties, a quality lifestyle IS more than a pocketbook issue. Nonetheless, making and managing money is important for everyone, according to Henry Weingarten, Managing Director of the Astrologers Fund.

There IS more to money than meets the eye: more than a commodity, it is precious energy, a symbolic shorthand for abundance. Learning to connect money with one's spiritual self facilitates a happier and naturally more prosperous life. Its cultivation and pursuit represents how we relate to the world and to each other. Do we choose to cooperate or compete with one another? Ideally, our use of money will be guided by our higher Self.

At first glance, you may well wonder what the "celestial" subject of astrology has to do with the mundane aspects of investing in general and socially responsible investing (SRI) in particular. Apparently, lots. It is an open secret on Wall Street that BILLIONS of dollars are traded on eclipses, lunations, solstices and other cosmic happenings. Why?

First, many investors have discovered that knowledge of Astrology, i. e. psychology and Timing, is as important as technical and fundamental analysis in forecasting market behavior.

Second, astrology is a mathematical psychology based on astronomy, charting not only market psychology, but also cycles and unique cosmic/terrestrial events.

Third, market forecasts made by experienced financial astrologers are often highly accurate and precise.

Keep in mind that stock markets have horoscopes. Yes, just like you! So do countries, stocks, bonds...and Financial Advisors. As a rule of thumb, astrologers say market watchers should look FIRST to their OWN chart for valuable clues in discovering their personal trading and investing style, market affinities and timing cycles.

The movement of the moon and planets have long functioned as a system of guidelines affecting behavior. When Benjamin Franklin looked towards the heavens for practical advice on when to sow and when to reap, his Farmers Almanac used centuries-old traditions. Similarly, when socially responsible investors today seek investment guidelines, or " screens" for their " investment almanac," they look at a broad range of factors.

While the modern era of SRI began with the Vietnam War, and the boycott of South African apartheid, its origins trace to the Quakers around the turn of the century. Their major concern was to align their investments with their ethics. Initially, some churches chose not to invest in companies that made alcohol or tobacco products. This action spawned today' s social investment movement committed to social change, and the desire to integrate money with ideals. Sound management AND bringing values to the marketplace is the goal. SRI analysts study corporate impact on their communities, employees, customers, shareholders, and the environment.

If SRI investment decisions are based on social performance, using astrology helps you to hold on to BOTH your pocketbook AND your conscience! Let's use the Astrologers Fund's favorite stock pick, International Hi-Tech Industries (IHI-V; IHITF) as "an example of the mix of the next Microsoft with a touch of Mother Theresa. IHI has patented a unique manufacturing construction process that is truly revolutionary'---this stock can make you rich in body and spirit" effuses Weingarten. What criteria is he using?

He refers to its horoscope history, September 12, 1990 in Vancouver, BC as a Canadian company and its October 4, 1994 Bermuda incorporation as a Global company. He then looks at how IHI's SRI screens and astrological screens mutually enhance one another.

First, IHI meets a fundamental worldwide need for disaster resistant housing. Its buildings are practically earthquake proof, and can survive fire, flood, hurricanes, tornadoes and similar "biblical "threats.

Second, IHI' s CADCAM manufacturing eliminates All raw materials waste and IHI's efficiency design, e.g. heating and cooling, averages30% savings over conventional buildings.

Third, IHI housing is 30% cheaper than conventional housing.

Fourth, 20% of IHI' s manufacturing capacity is reserved to meet social needs, e.g. schools, hospitals, churches, while an additional 20% is reserved for lower income housing.

Fifth, IHI is the Astrologers Fund BEST global aggressive growth stock pick of 1996 for fundamental and astrological reasons as well. They expect the stock price to more than triple, cautioning however to "first check with your financial advisor before investing."

Q: HOW DOES IHI LOOK ASTROLOGICALLY?

A: IHI' s horoscope is dominated by a Mercury, Jupiter, Nodes, Venus and Pluto conjunction in the first house. Moreover, Mars is elevated near the Midheaven, a very positive significator for a construction company, and also showing its pioneer status.

Q: WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND WHEN A HOROSCOPE OF A COMPANY IS GOOD, YET THEIR SOCIAL PERFORMANCE HAS LAGGED?

A:. It depends on the investor. One of the advantages of using astrology as an investment tool is that you can CUSTOMIZE the client's portfolio to his or her own horoscope for a MAXIMUM comfort level.

Q: ARE THERE SPECIAL ASTROLOGICAL CONFIGURATIONS AUGURING WELL FOR THE SOCIAL PERFORMANCE OF A COMPANY?

A: Perhaps. But I look upon this as more of a free will issue.

Q: WHAT INDUSTRIES, DO YOU SEE DOING WELL OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS?

A: We are approaching the Jupiter-Neptune and Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of early 1997. This translates into high tech, entertainment, drug and Biotechs. "Coincidentally" exactly what Wall Street is big on today.

Q: ARE THEY ALSO ACTING RESPONSIBLY?

A: Some do. Novell and Hewlett Packard, for example are two of our favorite technology picks.

Q: ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR TRENDS THAT YOU COULD HIGHLIGHT?

A: Yes, the use of Financial Astrology is increasing. Now, I have a question for you: CAN YOU AFFORD NOT TO HAVE AN ASTROLOGER IN YOUR FINANCIAL FUTURE?

Does Astrology and SRI investing work? Can High principles be brought down to earth? Henry Weingarten says his clients bank on it. I'll be watching.
