A new global consciousness was born 8:45 am on 9/11/2001 at the World Trade Center in New York.  I focus here on its astrological and financial dimensions, most especially the consciousness zeitgeist shift potential of this super empowered birth chart.

The generosity of all Americans and almost the entire world, with their personal good wishes and desire to help, is one positive response and hopeful beginning for world transformation.  The most terrible acts of terrorism were met with resolve, courage and compassion.  Numerous self absorbed excesses of the 1990's and 1980's were instantly rendered outmoded. The post 911 world is already different and more real. It could and should be created with loving consciousness and intelligent guidance.

ASTROLOGY- THE 911 BIRTH CHART
While 8:45 was the time given by the media, and 8:46 a.m. ET the exact time the first hijacked plane hit the World Trade Center according to President Bush, the first plane hit the World Trade Center a few moments earlier.
The Sabian symbol for the 14th degree of Libra rising:
IN THE HEAT OF THE NOON HOUR A MAN TAKES A SIESTA.   America is waking up from its sleep.
Mercury (communication) is rising in this chart- The message is loud and clear.  Mars conjunct the South Node is but one indication of this tragedy within the Saturn-Pluto cycle, now reinterpreted to include the opposition of terrorism (Pluto) to security, structured society and stability (Saturn).  Equally important are the angular Mercury (Asc) and Jupiter (MH) relaying a hopeful cosmic message expressed both by the outpouring of generosity from around the world and a global desire for true religious morality. 

ASTROLOGY- VARIOUS SYNASTRIES
Yes, Saturn-Pluto shows up strongly in both the charts of New York and the USA, as one would expect. Interestingly, this event recollects the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. The WTC Venus was opposite Uranus, the planet of surprise; while the Pearl Harbor Venus was in grand trine with Uranus and Neptune and opposite Pluto. That chart's Midheaven/Mars opposition lies exactly across the Ascendant axis of the WTC 911 horoscope. The emotional shock of December 7 at Pearl Harbor was felt by America; the emotional shock was global after 9/11.  GW Bush's Venus, or planet of peace, is exactly opposite the planet Uranus of the WTC horoscope.  Jupiter is transiting conjunct his Natal Sun (conjunct the USA Sun), pointing out the potential for a strong positive beneficial outcome for both to emerge from this great tragedy.

INVESTING SHORT TERM
The market reaction to 911 is obviously down. While certain sectors, such as defense and security, will obviously benefit, others such as airlines will not.  Do not rush to buy the latter.  However, insurance may do better than most expect. The losses are relatively small for many, rates may go up and more important, many more people will review and upgrade their insurance policies.  Computers and especially Telecommunications will recover a little faster than otherwise.  This event will help speed an economic recovery and by May 2002, we see there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Oil stocks are currently undervalued.
We see global markets targeting pre-911 levels, e.g. DJIA 9605 and NASDAQ 1695.

INVESTING INTERMEDIATE TERM
Leisure and Travel companies are undervalued Intermediate Term.  We especially like Hotels with hefty dividend yields over 10%, and will also partake in the current Fall stock sale with cruise lines. Given 10 interest rate cuts that make cash and bonds highly likely to under perform the market over the next 12-18 months, and the additional 100-200 billion dollars of WTC/War related spending, there is clearly light at the end of the tunnel: Saturn and Pluto opposition ends May 2002. 

INVESTING LONG TERM
By the first anniversary of 9/11 on September 11, 2002, markets will have largely recovered due to financial and monetary stimulation.  However, 2003 may not be all those rosy.  In other words, depending on your point of view- the cup is half full or half empty.

THE WAR ON TERROR
International terrorism is like cancer.  Surgical strikes are not sufficient.  One must look to the health of the total organism or the earth.  The US government and its allies need to eliminate the causes of global hate, poverty and cultural poisoning in addition to appropriate diplomatic, military, economic and political responses.

The first legal response began with President Bush issuing an executive order on Terrorist Financing, which blocked property and prohibited transactions with persons who commit, threat to commit or support terrorism.  This order became effective 12:01 EDT September 24, 2001.

The second key event was the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopting resolution 1373 shortly before 11:00 pm on 28 September, reaffirming its unequivocal condemnation of the terrorist acts on the United States on 11 September, and which laid out wide-ranging strategies to combat international terrorism. Reaffirming the need to combat threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, the Council expressed its determination to take all necessary steps to fully implement its resolution.

"Poverty, deprivation, illiteracy and unemployment are the breeding-ground of terrorism. The task of sustained development of all regions of the world and a stronger social component of globalization is now topical as never before," said Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov at the 56th session of the U.N. General Assembly.
Added to this big power consensus, I hope to see more global support for the UN among all citizens of the world. I would also like to see US support for the future International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, specifically war crimes, genocide and terrorism so that ALL terrorism will be considered like piracy, an atavistic construct from the past. SATURN-PLUTO AND THE TERRORISM CYCLE
The following interesting ideas are courtesy of the French financial astrologer Jean-Francois Richard:
"Islamic terrorism appeared after the arrival in power in Iran of the l'Ayatollah Khomeiny in 1979. It further developed with the help of the Iranian State in the early 1980's. Now, what major planetary cycle began in the 1980's that eventually could explain the appearance of this new nihilist terrorism? One finds in 1982 a Conjunction of Saturn/Pluto! If you admit that this new terrorism is related to this cycle, you will note it is now in its opposition phase. The current opposition Saturn/Pluto marks for this new terrorism half of cycle. Since the Conjunction, the fanatics have not stopped to progress in number and in means, to succeed now with their biggest bloody masterpiece to the United States. Uniquely based on the meaning of cycles and observing the facts, one can possibly reach the conclusion that this new terrorism has currently attained its apogee. The cycle Saturn/Pluto now will begin to fade and this décroissance could induce the reduction of this new terrorism. The whole international conscience of the danger of this terrorism, outside of the emotional aspect, could result in war, diplomatic, military, police and judicial activities. And to term, maybe even succeed to eliminate it. This is only a hypothesis, of course. But it is anyway striking to note that the biggest success of this new terrorism produces itself, to the planetary plan, to an extremely negative moment for it. It is thus paradoxical to note that while its success is total, since it made all the West tremble, that this success intervenes to the worse moment for it. That the terrorists will harvest only the bitter fruit of their victory is the best possible hypothesis to advance. Well understand, it would have been a lot more problematic had this attempt taken place at the time of a Trine or of a Sextile of Saturn/Pluto, positive configurations that normally should be to the advantage to the terrorists. But there, it seems plausible to see them paying a heavy price for their crimes. Note nevertheless, in the immediate term, that the Opposition Saturn/Pluto will not be definitively surpassed after next June. We hope we are not badly surprised, should there be excessive reprisals by the Americans (against civil populations as in Iraq during the war of the Gulf, for example) or the repeat of vague attention...."
HW:  Also see The Deep Intellectual Roots of Islamic Terror as a starting point of researching earlier Saturn-Pluto cycles and Islamic Terror, e.g. Sayyid Qutb with the previous Saturn-Pluto opposition in 1965.  In Dane Rudhyar's THE GALACTIC DIMENSION OF ASTROLOGY, he discusses how Saturn (the sense of boundary and limits of ego) can be challenged by Pluto- It is "I" vs. "We".  We are ALL on the earth together and we must endeavor not to isolate ourselves (Saturn) but to transform ourselves globally (Pluto) together! Given its activation of the US chart, it is appropriate that US citizens are beginning to pay attention to foreign affairs in a way not seen in decades since 911.  

911 ANNIVERSARIES (SOLAR RETURNS)
2002 September 11, 2002 is the date of the exact Jupiter/Neptune opposition.  This suggests a 200 point rally due to both the astrology and the likely emotional reaction.  Given the strong Mercury-Pluto aspects, there will be much discussion of terrorism as well as some danger.
2003  Saturn is on the IC and it may seem that the danger is past.
2004  Saturn in on the the Ascendant and there may be difficulties and perhaps a rebuilding/finishing of a new WTC.
2005  Jupiter on the Midheaven suggests the end of phase one and perhaps victory.

911 AND THE TAROT
The lightening struck tower came alive on September 11. The World Trade Centre events seem to be a precise manifestation of the Stricken Tower archetype , as portrayed in the Tarot card of that name. They include the bolt from the sky, the flames and the falling figures.  Studying the Tarot Fire card with it forced change is one way to understand these events on an archetypal level.  The Tower is violent like the planet Mars. Dante wrote, "The road to Heaven leads through Hell", and this is certainly the essential archetypal message of the sequence Devil-Tower-Star.
 

TIME FOR THOUGHTFUL ACTION
Getting back to normal is NOT the challenge.  I do not believe the tremendous shock of 911 occurred simply to return to pre-911 Pax-Americana.  It is time for national self examination. As with Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assassination, a fresh generation of Americans has lost their innocence.  It is time to wake up and not to go back to sleep. The greatness of America is not her debt spending and self-identification with commercial branding instead of inner life.  It is her refuge, her universal tolerance including religious freedom and respect for the individual within society.  Fortunately, many recognize that an effective war on terrorism must focus upon eliminating its root causes.  Helping to spread globally the democratic ideals upon which America was creatively born IS the challenge.  See the Earth Charter for more principles of dedication.
